The Fruit of Waiting and Patience

                                                 Fruit of Waiting/Patience

The teaching can be found here.

When I was growing up, my dad had some pear trees in the front yard of the house.  There was one particular tree he was waiting for it to bear and there were eight or so large, juicy pears on that tree.  Every day, he’d go out and thump the pears until he thought they were just right. This lesson is about the fruit God produces in us when we wait for His answers.

Some keys to waiting are following the examples of the people who waited:

· who prayed while waiting,

· who knew they were waiting for something worthy of the wait, and

· who reveled in the fact that their eternal life is safe.

2 Peter 3:9

It is not in vain that we wait.  Mercy will come and abundantly reward us for the wait.  God’s justice is worked through the wait.  By keeping our holy desires through the wait in the darkest most discouraging times, we will see His goodness on the other side.

Romans 8:23-25

The whole universe waits in expectation to see the children of God manifested in the glory God has prepared for them.  Because we have the Holy Spirit, our desires are quickened, our hopes are encouraged, and our expectations are raised.

Galatians 5:5

True faith is a working grace; it works by love to God and to our fellow believers.  Faith without love is worthless.

Patience waits for the fruit to grow and ripen for a reward that is worth the wait.  Because of grace, we have a reason to hope and we live by faith in the waiting. Waiting and faith go hand in hand, and those who wait with hope and patience inherit the promises of God and the purpose of God.

Patience as a fruit of the Spirit comes from bringing self-restraint and careful thinking. It looks for hope of becoming more Christ-like in the circumstances. With people it brings compassion.

Waiting brings patience and reveals the faithfulness of God.  Through the waiting, we build trust in Him. It is integral for fruit, because the fruit must be fully ripe to be its tastiest.
